Steam Client Installation on Debian 7 Wheezy

| Comments

Installation of steam client is not supported by Valve by default. Fortunately you can install git steam Debian version provided by GhostSquad57. The installation is rather simple:

1
wget http://goo.gl/FLGsT6

The above will download steam client for Debian 7 Wheezy. If the link does not work please visit the above mentioned GhostSquad57 link to get up to date download link.

1
dpkg -i steam-debian_1.0.0.43-2_all.deb

You may get bunch of dependencies problems. In that case run:

1
apt-get -f install

The above will fetch and install all dependencies as well as steam-client. To start steam client execute:

1
steam-debian

or simply browse you GUI menu of your desktop. Launch it and wait until the steam client downloads all necessary parts.

Recently I’ve got another error message:

1
2

You are missing the following 32-bit libraries, and Steam may not run

this can be fixed by installation of a transitional package to migrate ia32-libs to multiarch:

1
# apt-get install ia32-libs
